Microsoft Office 2007 Service Pack 2 (SP2) Download
Microsoft this week released Office 2007 Service Pack 2 for both their Office Products and Server.
Microsoft Office 2007 is no longer supported. Make sure to get the most updated version with a Microsoft 365 subscription. It includes continuously updated versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Microsoft this week released Office 2007 Service Pack 2 for both their Office Products and Server products which they are advertising as providing new bug fixes and improving stability and performance. I can’t think of a reason why you wouldn’t want to go grab these installs immediately and get them installed however before you run out and grab them, you should keep a few things in mind.
Microsoft Office 2007 SP2
- The SP2 update appears to make significant changes in the PST and OST data structures improving performance (Disk IO) and efficiency. So keep in mind the FIRST time you open Outlook after the upgrade you should expect the upgrade process to take anywhere from 2 minutes to 2 hours depending on the size and number of your PST and OST files.
- More information on the PST/OST changes can be found here: KB968413
- Because the PST and OST process could take HOURS, Microsoft recommends you perform the upgrade END OF DAY and then open Outlook before you go home.
- Significant Stability improvements which previously caused Outlook to become unresponsive.
- Search Reliability improvements when used with Windows Desktop Search 4.
- Many Calendar improvements are included with Office 2007 SP2 which help with Dupe copies of meetings, disappearing meetings and meetings that have been removed from the organizer but still appear on attendee calendars. Much groovy goodness here!
- POP Mail and IMAP changes which improve the experience for users. Downloading message bodies for iMAP for instance no longer stops Outlook from responding. That’s a good thing I’m going to guess. POP also appears to be optimized to download the newest e-mail first.
- RSS – Fewer DUPE items
- Outlook Start Time improved by 2X.
- Shutdown time should be faster as it no longer waits for external references to be released.
- A full workbook is available for download which includes all issues fixed by the SP2 release – Download the 2007 Office Service Pack 2 Changes.xlsx package now
