Install Virtual Machine Additions for MS Virtual Server 2005 R2
One nice thing about Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2 is that if you’re running old Virtual Machine Additions on your Guest VMs, the Admin console will throw an alert to let you know <See shot below>. This notice is handy, being that you always want to be running the latest VM additions on your Virtual Machines for both performance and compatibility reasons.
This How-To Article will quickly demonstrate how you can quickly update the Virtual Machine Additions for your Virtual Machines running Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1. Although the screenshots are from a Windows Vista box, the process is pretty much the same for other Client and Server versions of Windows.
<Warning Shot showing Additions on Guest VM are out of Date>
1) From the Virtual Server Console, Mouse Over the VM Name to activate the Context Menu, Click Edit Configuration
2) Click the Virtual Machine Additions link
3) Check Box Install Virtual Machine Additions and Click OK
After Step 3, a .iso will be mounted on your VM guest to allow for the installation of the VM Additions.
If you were logged into the Guest VM when you completed Step 3, the Installer should launch. Otherwise, navigate to the mounted drive and run the installer manually, as shown below:
